What is RT-PCR Test?
- Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)
- Tests the genetic material (nucleic acid) of SARS-Cov-2
- A sample is collected from upper or lower respiratory areas, like a nasal swab or throat swab
When do you need an RT-PCR Test for SARS-Cov-2?
- If you have any of the COVID symptoms (cough, fever, breathing problems, fatigue)
- You are travelling and need a confirmatory test
- Your doctor suspects you have COVID (you had a possible exposure and some suggestive symptoms) and advises this test
As the virus continues to spread, we take measures to keep our loved ones protected through hygienic standards and physical distancing and eagerly wait for the build-up the herd immunity. Our governments ramp up COVID testing, and more and more labs/clinics join the fight.
The requirement for prolific testing is increasing with time. We are returning to work. We are visiting parents in another city. We are going to the mall. We are not stuck in our homes anymore. However, we must be careful. We should always keep our mask on, look for symptoms of respiratory ailments, fatigue, fever, etc. Anybody presenting flu-like symptoms still needs to get tested to ensure their family and neighbour’s safety. Now we also know how COVID may leave us with long-term effects or lingering symptoms even after the infection is over. Such a condition is called Post-COVID syndrome. So, get the confirmatory test if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
Call RxDx Healthcare to collect your sample or walk into our Fever Clinics at Whitefield or Malleswaram to get the gold standard COVID confirmatory test, RT-PCR.
