A data analysis of over 28,000 adults reveals that only 16.8% people get vaccinated, even though 83.6% of the same group believe that vaccines are important,” says Ashwani Sinha, COO, RxDx Clinics. He adds, “Most participants in the study were between 27-49 years, and many were already in higher-risk categories with conditions such as thyroid disorders, hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes.”
Ashwani informs, “Vaccine uptake remains low: about 8% for hepatitis B, 5% for influenza, under 2% for pneumococcal vaccines, below 1% for shingles, and under 8% for HPV among eligible women.”
Dr Babu Rao, GP, RxDx Clinics, Electronic City shares, “Many of my patients are working professionals in their thirties and forties who track their numbers and come for annual checks but assume their vaccination days are behind them. When I ask about vaccine status, the most common response is – ’I didn’t know I still needed vaccines’.”
Meanwhile, Dr Preeti, Family Physician, RxDx Clinics, Sarjapur Road (Dommasandra) observed, “Many parents ensure their children are vaccinated but ignore their own. Adults with conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease may be at higher risk from vaccine-preventable infections, and timely adult vaccination can help reduce related complications.”
Similarly, Ashwani observes, “The study shows that when individuals understand why a vaccine matters to their own health, uptake improves. The shift happens when the message moves from general awareness to ‘this applies to me’,” he says.
“Ask one simple question at your next health visit – ‘Do I need any vaccines now?’” he advises.
