Prevent Pneumonia with a Simple Vaccine
Pneumonia is a serious infection that affects the lungs and can lead to severe health complications, especially in children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. At RxDx, we offer the latest and most effective pneumonia vaccination to safeguard your health.
Understanding Pneumonia and Its Complications
Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus, causing symptoms such as a cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing. Pneumonia can range from mild to life-threatening, particularly in vulnerable populations such as infants, older adults, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions. Complications can include bacteremia, lung abscesses, and pleural effusions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the pneumonia vaccine safe?
How long does the protection last?
The duration of protection varies depending on the type of pneumonia vaccine. Consult with our healthcare provider for more details.
Can I get vaccinated if I have a cold or fever?
It’s best to consult a doctor who can advise you on this.
What types of pneumonia vaccines are available in India?
The main vaccines for preventing pneumococcal pneumonia are:
- Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV13)
- Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine (PPSV23)
These vaccines protect against various strains of pneumococcal bacteria.
Are there any side effects of the pneumonia vaccine?
Common side effects include redness or pain at the injection site, fever, and muscle aches. Severe allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention. Fainting can occur after any medical procedure, including vaccination, so it’s important to sit or lie down if feeling dizzy. Those who prefer to avoid injections can request needle-free vaccine administration (₹250 administration charges apply).
Can you get pneumonia even after vaccination?
While vaccination greatly reduces the risk of pneumonia, it is still possible to contract the disease. Vaccinated individuals generally experience milder symptoms and are less likely to develop serious complications.
How effective are pneumonia vaccines?
Pneumonia vaccines are highly effective at preventing serious illness, hospitalisation, and death caused by pneumococcal infections. They have also been shown to reduce the spread of pneumococcal bacteria within communities.
