Overview

Cancer in younger women is less common than in those over 40, but it does happen and when it does, it tends to be caught later, partly because many younger women are not in the habit of formal screening. Hereditary risk is a real factor: a family history of breast, ovarian, or colorectal cancer can meaningfully raise personal risk well before the age of 40. So can certain lifestyle factors, hormonal conditions, and exposure to environmental risks over time.

The Cancer Risk Assessment for Women Below 40 Years (Advanced) at RxDx Clinics directly addresses this. It covers the same tumour markers as the above-40 packages for ovarian, colorectal, pancreatic, liver, and thyroid cancers alongside a cervical Pap Smear, a full blood count, and stool occult blood testing. Two of the tests are chosen based on age: a low-dose chest CT scan to check the lungs, and a breast ultrasound (sono mammography) instead of an X-ray mammogram. In younger women, ultrasound often works better because breast tissue tends to be denser, and it also avoids unnecessary radiation. Two oncologist consultations are included, available in the clinic or by teleconsultation.

This is the more thorough of the two options below 40. If you have a family history of cancer, a known risk factor, or symptoms that concern you, this package is designed for exactly that situation.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Sono Mammography used instead of X-ray Mammography in this package?

Sono Mammography uses ultrasound rather than X-rays to examine breast tissue. In younger women, breast tissue tends to be denser, which can make standard X-ray mammography less effective at detecting abnormalities. Ultrasound performs better in denser tissue and also avoids the small radiation dose associated with X-ray mammography — a reasonable consideration for younger women being screened outside of standard guidelines. If a finding on ultrasound warrants further investigation, your oncologist will advise on next steps, which may include X-ray, mammography or an MRI.

What is a Low-Dose Chest CT Scan?

A low-dose Chest CT produces detailed cross-sectional images of the lungs and surrounding structures. It can detect early changes — including small nodules that a standard chest X-ray may miss. It is included in the Advanced package for more thorough lung assessment, particularly relevant for women with a smoking history or environmental risk exposure.

Do younger women really need cancer screening?

Most cancer screening guidelines are pitched at women over 40 because the population-level risk is higher in that group. But guidelines are population averages, not personal risk assessments. If you have a family history of cancer, a known genetic risk factor, or symptoms that concern you, screening before 40 makes sense. This package gives you that option with specialist input included.

    What is a Pap Smear?

A Pap Smear collects a small sample of cells from the cervix to check for abnormal changes that can indicate cervical cancer or pre-cancerous conditions. It is a routine, quick test and is recommended for all women from their mid-twenties onwards.

What are tumour markers, and how reliable are they?

Tumour markers such as CA 125, CEA, CA 19.9, and AFP are substances produced by cancer cells or the body in response to cancer. A single elevated result does not confirm a diagnosis. These markers are most useful when read alongside imaging and clinical context which is why two oncologist consultations are built into this package.

What is the turnaround time for reports?

Blood test, ultrasound, sonomammography, and CT scan reports are available digitally on the same day or within 24 hours. The oncologist consultation is scheduled once the complete report is ready.

What is the flow of the check-up?

On arrival: registration → vitals → sample collection → imaging (CT scan, sono mammography, USG) → Pap Smear → oncologist consultation. Our team coordinates each step to reduce wait times.

Do I need to fast before my visit?

Yes, an overnight fast of 10–12 hours is required for certain blood tests. Water is permitted. Detailed preparation instructions will be shared after booking.

How is this package different from the Standard below-40 package?

The Advanced package includes a Low-Dose Chest CT Scan and Sono Mammography. The Standard package includes a Chest X-ray and Sono Mammography. The Advanced option provides more detailed lung imaging and is better suited for women with known lung risk factors or those seeking a more thorough overall assessment.

What happens if a result requires follow-up?

If any finding warrants further investigation — whether an elevated tumour marker, an abnormal breast ultrasound, or a lung nodule on CT — your oncologist will explain the finding clearly, and our team will support you with the next steps.
